Samsung has a new projector that weighs about as much as your phone does. OK, that’s a slight exaggeration—an iPhone 13 weighs a little over a quarter of a pound and the new Freestyle projector weighs two pounds. Still, that’s a pretty small device, especially when you consider all that it can do.
Samsung, the Freestyle
Samsung announced the new Freestyle portable projector at CES 2022, and it is currently up for preorder for a reduced price of USD$899. Aside from being ultra-portable, the Freestyle can project onto walls, screens, or anywhere else, including the ceiling, from 30 to 100 inches and up to 550 lumens of brightness. The image comes in at 1080p resolution, and the tiny projector offers 360-degree sound. It also has auto-focus and auto-leveling.
If that’s not tempting enough, the projector also accesses Samsung’s smart TV platform, so you can stream Netflix anywhere you take the projector. Samsung is also prepared with a variety of accessories to go along with the Freestyle, such as a lens that creates mood lighting, a waterproof case for outdoor use, and a USB-C portable battery (which you’ll probably want to spring for as the Freestyle doesn’t appear to have an internal battery). And don’t forget about the base that lets you screw the projector into a light bulb socket. The projector also supports Amazon Alexa and Samsung Bixby voice assistants.
Given all of its capabilities, the Samsung Freestyle could easily fit into any lifestyle—from outdoor camping to indoor movie nights and more. No doubt it will be a quick mover when it does come to market, so availing yourself of the preorder option, along with that preorder price, is a good move. Plus, you’ll have the added bonus of not having to lug around a 20 pound brick of lamps and circuitry. Just put the Freestyle in its case, throw it in a backpack, and you’ve got entertainment wherever you want it.
