Top 5 Video Games and Release Dates for May 2021!

Suit up and slide into May with our look at the top video games launching this month. With the cold weather truly settling in, there’s plenty of new games to keep you indoors and entertained whether you’re into horror, sci-fi, survival games, or quirky competitiveness.

Resident Evil Village leads this month’s countdown thanks to its creepy atmosphere and clear RE 4 inspiration. And who can look past Mass Effect Legendary Edition? The critically acclaimed trilogy returns remastered for modern consoles and PC with Shepard’s space-faring mission receiving stacks of improvements and enhancements.

Biomutant is a unique take on the open-world action/adventure genre, and Knockout City is a dodgeball-inspired sports game for the Fortnite generation. And then there’s Miitopia, a returning social experience/RPG for Nintendo Switch. We didn’t cover this one in-depth, but you can expect it to sell at least a few million copies.

1. Resident Evil Village

The next generation of survival horror is here! Resident Evil Village continues the story and first-person gameplay introduced in Resident Evil 7. Returning hero Ethan Winters faces a new tragedy that sets him on a course to a European village searching for his daughter.

Ethan faces off against four imposing lords in the shadows of a foreboding castle, each unleashing new enemies and unique horrors. And behind it all is Chris Redfield, former Resident Evil hero who now appears to take on the role of series villain. Fan-favorite elements like weapons crafting, resource management, and a merchant named The Duke add further depth to the gameplay. Upon completing the campaign, the popular Mercenaries mode becomes unlocked for replayable arcade action.

2. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

There’s no way this collection could not be front and center in our top video games column. One of the greatest trilogies of all time makes a return in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Featuring three critically acclaimed games, players can relive the legend of Commander Shepard and his space-faring companions as the only hope against the greatest threat the galaxy has ever faced.

The Legendary Edition features the single-player campaigns from all three original Mass Effect games, including over 40 collections of DLC, promo weapons, armors, and more.

The three games are remastered for enhanced performance, with gameplay improvements and controller support for PC. The cinematic saga also receives 4K support for enhanced visuals, textures, and models, plus an updated user interface. Get ready to save the galaxy all over again!

3. Biomutant


Biomutant is a post-apocalyptic open-world action RPG that delivers a blend of martial arts, shooting, and mutant ability action. Players can explore the colorful, vibrant world on foot, by the mech, balloon, jetski, and UFO. Then, customize your animal character through mutations, bionics, and crafting to make them your own.

Within this highly original animal kingdom, the Tree of Life is bleeding, and the tribes stand divided. It’s up to you to rescue the tree from contaminants and unite the tribes in the process or end them once and for all. Although guided by a storyteller who narrates the journey, it’s your actions and decision that shape how the story unfolds.

4. Subnautica Below Zero

Subnautica: Below Zero

Dive into the freezing waters of an alien planet in Subnautica Below Zero. In this survival sequel, players return to Planet 4546B to uncover the truth behind a deadly cover-up. You survive the hostile landscape by building habitats, crafting tools, fending off wildlife, and always diving deeper into the frosty depths.

This time around, you can also leave the ocean and clamber up the snow-covered peaks and explore crystal caverns. Scavenging for resources in these new locations will net you everything you need to build and expand your journey into the unknown. Remember to keep your wits about you. Some of the wildlife is neutral, but more often than not, the alien lifeforms are hostile. But keep exploring, as something undiscovered lurks around every corner.

Subnautica Below Zero is the sequel to 2018’s critically acclaimed Subnautica. The latest entry leaves early access and launches on every platform on May 14.
