The only thing that could possibly overshadow the new Batman trailer at this year’s DC Fandom event is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Black Adam. Released, the four-minute teaser trailer offers a little intro from the star-studded cast, including Dwayne Johnson himself, before giving fans just a snippet of the anti-hero’s first entrance into DCEU.
‘Black Adam’ Teaser
Shrouded in a black robe and awoken by some unsuspecting soldiers of fortune, Black Adam’s first appearance on the screen shows him choke slamming some poor bloke while simultaneously turning him to ash, before catching a bullet, hovering above the earth like superman whilst still more bullets bounce off his chest. Yes, yes. A million times, yes. We can already hear the DC fans shrieking in anticipation.
Officially joining Dwayne is Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz. Behind the camera, the film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra – who previously worked with Johnson on Disney’s Jungle Cruise and is known for a slew of excellent horror flicks – Black Adam follows an ancient Eygptian named Teth-Adam, who becomes a champion of the wizard Shazam before being deemed unworthy. In typical evil villain fashion, Teth Adam decides to keep the powers anyway and fall asleep for millennia or two.
In the comic books, originally created in the mid-1940s, Black Adam is a good old-fashioned villain. However, the new adaptation seems to pit Johnson’s iteration as an anti-hero of some sort who comes to head against Dr. Fate’s Justice Society before joining forces to fight a bigger evil.
Releasing in cinemas on the 29th of July 2022, Black Adam looks to be a summer blockbuster that’ll likely rival Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder and Spiderman: No Way Home.
